WaterQuest Legend 1
Filename is: water1.zip (225k)
Aprrox. Creation: Spring, 1991
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, EGA graphics, DOS.
Also Requires: QB.EXE or (QBASIC.EXE from olddos).
Executable File: WQ1.BAT
Read This First: README.TXT
Instructions: README.EXE (MANUAL.DOC)

See 12 Screenshots HERE

NOTE: For more than 10 years, WaterQuest sat unplayed and unreleased, collecting dust on a diskette. Finally, (after it's probably no longer any use to anybody), it's available to download and play. Better late than never, they say.

. . . . . This is the story of Prince Ralum, a bold adventurer who set out to find the fabled LifeLake in an attempt to save his dying father, as told by several tavern patrons to two young strangers (run README.EXE). Before you begin, read the important information in README.TXT explaining how to easily slow down your Windows DOS session to emulate a 25Mhz 486 (slowdown.com is included and already called by the WQ1.BAT startup file), and how to obtain a copy of QBASIC.EXE from the Microsoft FTP site (presently part of "olddos" here). WaterQuest is a large, difficult, fun RPG/Quest/Adventure with several different levels, lots of items, small quests to complete, and strange monsters to kill or avoid. For such an outdated game, it's still pretty cool!

Cupid-Slayer
Filename is: cupid.exe (666k)
Created: January 2000
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, Windows 95/98/00, msvbvm50.dll.
Executable File: CUPID.EXE
Instructions: (in-game)

See 1 Screenshot HERE

. . . . . Love is EVIL. Destroy it at the source by battling Cupid in 5 surreal levels. Playing is easy (just click to attack/heal/dodge) but the winning strategy can be difficult. Features an original MIDI soundtrack and still-rendered scenes. Cupid Slayer is completely self-contained -- a stand-alone executable with nothing to install (although msvbvm50.dll is required -- check your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ directory to see if you already have it). Cupid must die! Download Cupid-Slayer now!

Lunatix: The Insanity Circle
Filename is: luntic11.zip (810k)
Created: September 1999
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, DOS.
Executable File: LUNATIX.EXE
Instructions: README.TXT & in-game “HELP”.

NOTE: This is probably the reigning gem of my collection - a wonderful example of QuickBASIC's power (don't worry, it stands alone - no need for the QBASIC.EXE program). This is a challenging, fun adventure game. If you need it, a detailed "walkthrough" is available on request.

. . . . . In L:TIC, you are Dr. Armund Hammer. After another uneventful day of goofing off and not attending to the mental patients in your asylum, you awaken from an afternoon nap. It's time to go home. Unfortunatly, your keys are missing and you find yourself locked in Imenz Aine. You are about to get a taste of what it's like to be a patient. L:TIC is a Text Adventure game (with graphic illustrations), also known as Interactive Fiction. You play by typing commands such as GET KEY, UNLOCK DOOR, and so forth.
If you like Text Adventures (interactive fiction) be sure to check out the usenet groups rec.arts.int-fiction and rec.games.int-fiction, as well as the “IF” archive at ftp.gmd.de/if-archive/.

Breath Pirates
Filename is: breath12.zip (102k)
Created: October 1997
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, DOS.
Executable File: BREATH.EXE
Instructions: BREATH.DOC & in-game “HELP”.

. . . . . In the future, oxygen is scarce. Air is a luxury only the rich can afford. Breath Pirates is a Text Adventure game, also known as Interactive Fiction. You play by typing commands such as GET KEY, UNLOCK DOOR, and so forth. This was created with my own home-grown parser, and it's actually pretty good. If you like Text Adventures (interactive fiction) be sure to check out the usenet groups rec.arts.int-fiction and rec.games.int-fiction, as well as the “IF” archive at ftp.gmd.de/if-archive/. Breath Pirates was mentioned as a candidate for the 1997 XYZZY awards.

Lexter 1
Filename is: lexter1.zip (140k)
Aprrox. Creation: February 1993
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, VGA graphics, DOS.
Executable File: LEXTER.EXE
Instructions: README.EXE.

See 4 Screenshots HERE

. . . . . A new king in a long-forgotten realm is about to take his throne -- but first he must meet the challenges of “The Tasks of Honor.” Attempt to solve each level's puzzle by guiding lexter through a maze of blocks, mines, and other obstacles. Passwords allow levels to be replayed later.

Lexter 2
Filename is: lexter2.zip (185k)
Aprrox. Creation: December 1993
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, VGA graphics, DOS.
Executable File: LEXTER2.EXE
Instructions: README.EXE --> README.DOC.

See 2 Screenshots HERE

. . . . . Lexter gets kidnapped by aliens who were impressed with how he managed the tasks of honor. They recruit him for a mission on another planet which is strikingly similar to what he's proven himself to be capable of. Lexter 2 expands the Lexter theme by allowing save-games in an adventure-style quest. Lexter travels through a main “world” map, solving each of the puzzles along the way.

Notes
Filename is: notes.zip (105k)
Aprrox. Creation: January 1991
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, EGA graphics, DOS.
Executable File: NOTES.EXE
Instructions: README.EXE.

See 2 Screenshots HERE

. . . . . This game is very unique. It's a game in which you fill up music measures with music notes, sort of like Tetris but quite a bit different once you actually see it. It's easier if you know how to read music (even a little) but if you don't, you can still play. I thought it was very original, but maybe a little complex. You be the judge. NOTE: Source Code (QuickBASIC) for this game is included!

Spore
Filename is: spore.zip (119k)
Aprrox. Creation: March 1991
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, EGA graphics, DOS.
Executable File: SPORE.EXE
Instructions: README.EXE.

. . . . . This hybrid game combines a Text Adventure with a breakout/arkanoid style game. The instructions to this one can be VERY helpful, but here are a couple quick hints. In the adventure mode, type ENTER LIGHT when a light column is present. In the Video Game section, use the CTRL and ALT keys on the right-hand side of the keyboard to move right and left, respectively. NOTE: Source Code (QuickBASIC) for this game is included!

Mystic Force
Filename: mystic.zip (99k)
Aprrox. Creation: December 1993
. . . . . Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, DOS, ANSI.SYS loaded.
. . . . . Executable File: MYSTIC.EXE
Instructions: in-game.

. . . . . A Mystic Force has invaded the land and YOU must stop it. This is a Text Adventure game featuring simple ANSI graphics (add DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS to your config.sys file, or DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ANSI.SYS if you are using Windows 95/98). The parser in this game is simplistic (not as nice as my newer Adventures, Breath Pirates and Lunatix: The Insanity Circle).

Shift Zone
Filename is: sz13.zip (107k)
Aprrox. Creation: August 1995
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, Windows 3.1 or Windows 95, vbrun300.dll.
Executable File: SZ1.EXE
Instructions: SHFTZONE.DOC.

. . . . . This was the ORIGINAL Shift Zone, upon which the BBS door version was based. It's a puzzle game, and it's pretty challenging and very unique.

Billy Bob
Filename is: billybob.zip (725k)
Aprrox. Creation: October 1994
Requires: IBM PC/Compatible, Windows 3.1 or Windows 95, vbrun300.dll.
Executable File: BILLYBOB.EXE
Instructions: in-game

. . . . . Actually, this one is called “Lexter's Deranged Cousin Billy-Bob” but that's close enough. It's a Lexter-style game for Windows... point-and-click. The larger file size comes from the included sound/music files.
